DVD to AVI it wont copy the whole movie...HELP!

i have a video i copy to dvd. I want to convert it to avi so i can edit somestuff on my computer. i use dvd to avi. it converts fine but it wont convert the whole video. i think their is a limit to it. 700 mb. how do i convert the whole cd? or is their any other program that does that?
