DVD file size or length?

I searched the forums and didnt get a direct answer so heres my question:

Blank dvds hold 4.7GB...I have a .DV file about 7GB. Toast lets me burn it...but I was wondering if there was some kind of compression used, and maybe i couldnt really notice the difference when I watched it? It looked normal.

I was thinking it could either be compression, or that it doesnt burn under the size of the file, but maybe the length (2hrs.) Could some one let me know what goes on here?

different compression formats. DV is one kind, which is usually 25mb/sec. DVDs use mpeg2 compression, so thats why the filesizes are different. two different types of video formats.

For the best quality mp3s use EAC (exact audio copy) to rip your audio CDs and LAME to encode them. Follow this guide:

compress it with xvid 1.1beta1
and burn as data

or convert to mpeg2 to burn as DVD video.
