I don't know what happened, I just don't know. I mean, I've heard alot of the chatter about how difficult or risky modding a PS2 could be due to the small soldering points, but this is like nothing I could have ever imagined. I ordered the chip, it arrived, I opened the PS2, and began the installation. I figured, "Hey, I'll due the eight points on the back of the board last, to save some trouble." but those same eight points would be my problemin the end. Everything was going fine, and I didn't see where the "danger" was. The only connection that gave me any trouble on the front of the board was the Ground, but I figured I could handle that after everything else was connected. Problem after problem confronted me, worries about running out of solder, running out of wire, and even a severe soldering iron burn. But yet, I triumphed and finally completed all connections on the front of the board. When I flipped the board over, only eight points remained. I made my first attempt to connect point B and failed miserably. I tried again but still, no dice. I even resorted to using my father as a third arm, but his only advice after we still couldn't connect it was "What if we got some needle nose pliers and opened up the holes some?" Don't worry, I wasn't desperate enough to try it. And Don't even get me started on that stupid Ground. Why is it so f@#$%n' hard to solder a wire directly to the damn board!? But I'm begging, if you have installed a Magic V 5k6 please tell me how you grounded it and soldered those eight points on the back!

what your supposed to do is you have to scratch away the green insulation on the mainboard untill you get to the actual board. it sounds kinda silly but the ground actually works and most modchip suppliers or diagrams dont give all the information.

use the edge of the board where the copper is exposed for the ground and put a little flux on it first . for the vias you have to lighly scrach them with a razor blade to expose the copper , and again use a little flux to get the solder to stick . be gentle with the vias , if you damage any the ps2 will not work .

SCE, I trust you, it's just that I don't trust ME to take a razor to the my beloved PS2 board. So what exactly do you mean by "damage" the vias? And if I do damage them or something else would it be fixable? By the way, how much would you charge me to send you the PS2 to let you finish the soldering?

Damn...

a via is a conection from 1 side of the board to the other , so if you damage 1 (burn it off the board , lift it , or damage the trace that goes to it) somthings not going to work . as for your other question , please dont ask that sort of thing here .

Thanks, and uh, sorry about that question, I'm just not very self-confident at this sort of thing. Once I get the flux tomorrow I'll tell how it goes.

Damn...
