then run shrink and reauthor
then make an iso file
then use Nero or whatever to burn...

I had no problem at all copying the Grudge using AnyDVD along with dvdxcopy platinum or DVD Decrypter.
The only problem I had was if I tried placing the original disk in my dvd/cd-rw and the blank in the burner it wouldn't work. ISo I read the original from my burner.

For anyone having trouble copying "The Grudge", do a search for "The Forgotten" thread on After Dawn- it was also a Sony picture and has the same encryption as "The Grudge." Read through the posts and you should find a solution to almost any problem you're having with this movie - the same software, etc. will work for this one. The majority of people downloaded the newest version of DVD Decrypter and ripped the movie to their hard drive (I used File mode but others used something different), then used DVD Shrink to compress the movie and whatever program they usually use to burn (I have Shrink set up to burn with Nero 6 Ultra Edition). As DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink are free, you are not out any money$$$ to use this software. There are 5 pages on that thread now, so you should be able to find an answer to your questions. Basically, the new copy protection Sony is using inserts errors on the disc which causes many of the programs to lock up. Good Luck!!

I was finally able to burn The Grudge after 2 days of playing around with it. I followed BBMAYO's guide although it did not work the first few times. Used Decrypter to grab the main movie files only, then went to Shrink and Reauthored it to an ISO & Burn with Decrypter. That was the only way I could get it to work. If I just put it to ISO, Decrypter couldn't find the file, even though I could see it in the folder. Weird but I finally got it to work. Hope that helps anyone.

For those of you having problems with "The Grudge" or other Sony movies with the new encryption scheme, this is the thread I mentioned on "The Forgotten." It is 5 pages and has quite a bit of information, etc. You can find answers to a lot of questions already posted here. Take the time to check it out if you don't get an answer.

For info on settings, etc. for Decrypter, I used the settings from one of the guides and did not have to change them for the new version of the software or the new encryption scheme.
