Sorry as this is such a newbie question which will probably be answered quickly, but:
1. Can i watch backup dvd's on my ps2
2. If not what is the easiest way to mod it? i.e for someone with no knowledge of solder and wants it to be a solution that can be carried around and won't fall off at the first knock in my rucksac..

So you're referring to watching backup dvd movies in your ps2? If so, then you don't have to do any modification to your ps2 to do this.

I doubt movies on cd-r's will work on a ps2.
But, correctly made dvdr backup movies work perfectly.

yes, backup dvd's work as previously stated, and vcd's won't. I tried to make a VCD the other day and pop it in there and it didnt work. was curious.
V12 PS2, SMD, GhostCover&Tape
Pioneer 108, Taiyo Yuden's

dvd movies can be played directly through the ps2.but if they are modded, some chips require for you to put the ps2 in dvd mode,or in some cases region x dvd, which turns your dvd into a multi region dvd player.

I asked a similar question (about PS-2 dvd backup playback (MOVIES ) So are you saying that if I properly burn a dvd movie on good=branded quality media that it should playback on any PS-2 ? Or do PS-2's prefer certain brands over others or formats - or + I was told DVD- R is better for movies on PS-2 . It's for my Grandsons ps-2 he watches movies and plays his games on it. Any help or suggestions are much appreciated - thank y'all very much -peace

Yes,
-r discs work on any ps2,
+r discs work on V5 and up, and occasionally v4's.
Movies aren't quite as picky as games when it comes to media.

sometimes companies have there dvd media made by a poor quality producers of dvd disc's
memorex are notorious for this
running the dvd blank through the dvd identifier will tell you who actually made the blank disc,
just download the link(its free)
i have never used HP disc's,so i cant comment on there reliabilty with the ps2....the ps2 can be a fussy m/c
the likely answer to problem may well be your ps2 is not capable of reading HP disc's!
try using other type of media
stick to dvd-r .....as you have a version 4
search the forums on advice on which media to use,i always use tdk/sony
ritek are also good
there are many different types of media.lots of them are good, but many are also very poor
i cannot stress enough how important it is to use good quality media
that way,you will have stress free copying
hope this helps
with kind regards hursty
