Im new at all this. Im having trouble with the trial version of TMPGEnc. I tried the trial version of winAVI and it worked just great. Except now i have that ugly watermark on my movie. Is winAVI worth buying? Is it superior to TMPGEnc? Is it simpler to use when your a newbie such as myself?

You might want to try them all before you buy. I saw a program called "1click dvd movie" made by the same compant that released 1click dvd copy. Why not give it a try, looks quite user friendly.

If you just want video on dvd, get VSO Divx to DVD.
It's free. Also does other formats, not just divx.
There's also TheFilmMachine, D.I.K.O., and DVDHive, all free.

THanks I'll give those a try. Do all those convert AVIs to dvds I can play on my dvd player? Also I just want to say this website has been a great help to me. I knew zip when I started reading the forums !

I tried to search for "1click dvd movie" on your software sight and it came up with no matching results. Can you tell me the company? Thanks. Do you have anything else I can try thats free. I have downloaded AVI movies that I want to watch on my t.v. instead of on my computer. I loved winAVI but i like free stuff more!

All the programs I mentioned above are free.
Go to www.videohelp.com and click on TOOLS.
Type in VSO and search.
The download links and program info are all there.
I think this would be the best for you to start out with.

I just have one more question. Thanks again for your help! I am using DivX to DVD. If I am trying to convert a movie that I downloaded in two parts (cd 1 and cd 2) do i need to use something like virtual dub to put the parts together first?

Also should VSO have given me an audio and video file after the conversion. I only got a TS video file. Sorry , I'll get smart one of these days!

Yes, you should join them in VirtualDub first (if they're avi). If they're mpg, join them in virtualdubmod.
Yes, VSO should have given you a complete dvd structure output.

vso worked great. Thanks so much. Im having a problem when I have two movie files. I tried putting them together with virtual dub and I got an error message saying: Couldnt locate decompressor for format DIV3. Can you help me?

You need the DIV3 codec. It's available at videohelp.com just as you found the other stuff.

thanks for your help. I had a question about codecs i posted in the appropriate section. I tried both softwares , they work great. What software can you use to put AVI onto cds, to make a VCD. I realize i may have to use two cds for one movie. Is there simialar all in one type software for doing this?

The easiest would be Nerovision Express.
There are other ways, maybe svcd2dvd (which also does AVI to VCD etc.), VCDEasy, et al.
Search the tools section at videohelp.com for (S)VCD author.

I used avi2vcd. It splits the movie for you. It seems to work great. Once encoded is Nero the easiest for burning? How does Alcohol 120 differ or are they about the same?

Burn with whatever is easiest for you to use.
I have always used Nero, which works extremely well if you choose the correct template.
