I had the same prob with mine. Basically the hd advance disc isnt a perfect press. like the ones u get from a commercial game. My HDloader disc would load 10% of the time. I was lucky that it loaded the very first time i put it in, otherwise i would have assumed it was totally broken. And some newer ps2's have had there lasers weakened to prolong the life of the laser. So they areny as good at reading third party pressed discs.

I was faced with a few choices. Coz mine still worked a little bit, (mine would get to the logo, and then actually work) i was able to do some fooling around with it, and access my memory card via ftp from my PC. Then i could have put in a Memory card exploit. But my ps2 died.

So im getting the laser fixed while im at it. There are things on the net about increasing the laser power urself. But damned if i could follow them. My console didnt look n e thing like the guides did on the inside.

If u can get the hd advance to work at all. And load a game from the hdd. Then it is possible to put the HDadvance elf onto the memory card.

to get HDa onto ur mem card is abit tricky. more so if u dont have a modchip or swap method. in brief it involves putting the ps2 HDD in ur PC. using HDLDumb or similar to install an image which contains a ftp client for ur ps2. Then put the HDD back into the ps2. Then u have to get HDa to load the image, and then u can FTP from ur pc to ur ps2. Of course u will need a network cable to do this. Then u ftp some files onto ur mem card. Theres more to it then that. But thats it in brief.

And once the files are on your card. U use a ps1 disc, (can be any ps1 disc, demo disc etc) and that will do what is called a MC exploit. The ps1 disc will load the files u have on the Memcard, which one of them would be HDa.

So u wouldnt need the HDa disc.

U could even go further. And get the files to load off ur HDD instead of the MC. (still need 1 small file to be on the MC tho). So u can save space on the MC. I suggest u look into Memory card exploits on google or this forum to find out more. There a tons of guides out there. You will just have to make sure u fidn the one that lets u use HDa to do it, instead of a modchip.

*edit*
The important thing is that u need to HDa to be able to work at least once to do this.

I'm having the same problem, and I plan to get a new copy of HD advnace (or maybe loader), but I have run into another problem. I cant seem to get my PS2 to recognize the hard drive I put in (seagate 80gig). I've formated it and everything, and the only thing I can think of is the placement of the jumper between master and slave and what not. Where, if anywhere, should the jumper go? Any other ideas would be apreciated. Thanks.
