hd loader hardware error, and this makes me a sad panda.

hello all, i am in quite a pickle. i got hdloader, and a maxtor 80 gig. i put the hd in my ps2 and everything was going well, i had several of my games on it, it was working fine. then i connected it to my computer to rip the rest of my games faster. i used winiip to do this. then it stopped working, hd loader didnt recognize my hard drive. so i formated it using the partitioner in windows (im not sure if i partitioned it wrong or what, never really messed with partitions) and then tried to get hdloader to format it and nothing. then i did the ps2 format with winiip, and hdloader still didnt recognize it. i even messed with all the jumper settings, and still nothing. if anyone can help it would be much appreciated.
