playback is choppy- codecs,drivers?

This problem just occured last week, the same dvd's that are giving me problems now worked fine for ages.
When playing back i'm lucky to get 10mins before the player freezers(powerdvd6)and that 10mins are choppy and broken.
I have used different players, different drives and i have just reinstalled all required codecs but the problem
still occurrs.
I made the back ups on dvd shrink.MPEG-2 i think?
Regular dvd's work fine.
Anybody out there know what this could be? Thanks
