Playback problem in Monitor with Adobe Premiere

I have Adobe Premiere Pro 6.5 which used to work perfectly until I reinstalled Windows 2000 (I'm not a fan of XP). Now it won't play video in the monitor window unless I render it first. It plays in the little preview window perfectly though which is strange. The only thing I changed on my PC recently was my graphics card - upgraded from Nvidia GeForce 440MX to Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 (256MB). I've tried rolling my drivers backwards and forwards but the problem is still there. My motherboard is an ECS KV7MM+ with a gig of RAM. It's not a capture issue because so far I've only been trying to edit avi files I've already had on my pc. Can anybody help?
