I read on this site that the reason you need a modchip or a boot disk is because when you backup a game you cant burn the boot part of it. If this is true then if i started the game with the original and after it loaded, put in the backup why wouldn't it work.

Without deviation from the norm, progess is not possible

beacuse everytime you press the eject button or
open the tray the ps2 reads the boot sector of the disk to verify its label and contents when the tray
is shut.

PS2 games are actually pressed DVD/CD discs, they are not burned. PS2 games use the Burst Cutting Area (BCA) of the disc to identify themselves to the PS2 unit. The BCA is not part of a disc that you can burn on, it is only replicated on pressed discs. So, the only way to play backups is to get boot-discs or a mod-chip.

If there was an easy way around this then,
We all would not be buying modchips and such if
we didnt need them.
