I am currently using a V4 PS2 with the old Swap Magic discs. I tried to backup a copy of NBA Street Vol 3 and it froze during the loading screen and it worked for other people. Some said my ps2 version was too old and to get an updated ps2 and a modchip. I am getting a v12 slim ps2 soon, and I read most of the forums on this site and they said modchips make your laser burn out faster, and in generally the slim ps2's laser are generically weak (ones bought before november), but if I buy one now does that problem still exist?
Been a swap magic user for some time and am getting sick of swapping discs and eliminate it by using a chip. So has anybody installed the magic chip v kx and had no problems on it so far? Or should I just buy the "thick" ps2's? Thanks in advance!

Forget to ask if the magic chip v kx will let you play backups online?

magicVkx is good for pstwo.. but no u cant play back ups online with that.
you need to get a chip that will disable its self after a back up boots. like matrix infinity.. altough it doesnt save ur laser.. theres always summ0nes fix... summ0nes fix + matrix infinity= beast

Thanks for you reply Masoud23, but I read that the magic chip v kx had to ability to disable itself so doesn't that mean it can play backup games (after you patch the game w/ discutil) online?
Also the muppet chip which is a clone of the magic chip said it was network adaptor ready. If it was a clone why can't the original chip go online?

hks123, I don't think the magic chip "direct" boots your backups. It involves the process of holding down one of the power buttons then it will boot. If your concerned about the lasers on your ps2 being safe, you might want to try one of those fixes where you need to solder resistors onto the mobo. From what I read playing backups copies put more pressure on the ps2 laser.

the magic chip does have the ability to be Disabled..
but you have to do it yourself. So when the chip is disable you cannoT play back up games. only original games, then u can go online with ur original but not back up.. now for matrix infinity when you load a back up game the chip goes to stealth mode or disables itself after booting a back up game so you can go online with back up games( but magic chip cannot do this), but u also have to patch the back up to go online..http://ps2nfo.com/on-line.html or read this thread http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/82900
and the muppet chip is same thing, its a clone tho..
why would u buy a clone when u could buy the real chip for about same price.. anyway ur decision man . peace

The matrix infinity also has issues with the slim ps2, where it can cause mechacon lockups. The reason we stopped carrying them. I think theyve updated the firmware and possibly fixed it since.
We use Crystal Chips, DMS4 Lites and Magic KX+'s
In either of those choices make sure you apply the summ0ne fixes.
Our most popular seller is the Magic Kx+ with summ0ne fixes. We use high quality Japanese SMT Res, but even a cheap Carbon Film Res should work :)& it will be easier for you to install.

also masoud your information is missleading
all chips go into sleep mode not just the matrix infinity, with the exception of the old old chips like magic 3 and old messiash.
magic kx+ does go into sleep as well, so its no different.
just apply the patches and you should be fine, but you really should buy the game !
My current systems :)
V12 DMS4 Lite with summ0ne fix
Xbox 1.6 - Xecuter 3 w 300GB HDD
Xbox 360 - Sammy Drive with ixtrem 1.2
Wii Rev 1.0 - Authentic Wiikey
Be sure to use the summ0ne fix on your v12 !
