PS2 7000 DVD Laser Problem, to easy!

I have been watching backed up movies on my ps2 slim 7000 with out a problem ever since I bought it. Today I had a few blank DVD's mixed in with my movies, trying to find out which one was the movie, I read 3 blanks in my ps2. It made a strange noise so I took the disks out. Now when I try playing my backed up DVD's or even my originals they just won’t load. I receive errors such as "Play halted due to malfunction" or “Unable to read disk” and this is with the originals!
After testing some more of my PS2 games, Naruto 2 showed the biggest problem with the intro starting and stopping. So I would say it’s the laser. Why is the laser so weak? Any recommendations on the best way to repair it? It’s a Japanese model. Are the lenses cheap? Or should I just look for the warranty?
