Magic 3.1 install works but DVD drive gives a grinding noise

I installed a magic 3.1 modchip into my V7 PS2 and if I hit eject and put in a backed up PS2 game and then hit the rested button I get a loud grinding noise and then it restarts and plays the game. If I hit eject and then put the game in and the hit eject again and try to load the game there is no grinding noise but it won't load. I read about lubricating the laser assembly and the arm not catching but I don't think it's the DVD drive. Could there be something wrong with the install?
