I also have had trouble shrinking the Grudge movie? Everytime I try to shrink, the process locks up. I think the movie itself has another type of protection other than CSS. Could any one help. Decrypter doesn't work also. Any advice
Thanks.

Download DVD Decrypter, (free), or AnyDVD which just runs in the background, ($40 US), and use along with DVD Shrink. Both of these programs can remove the new encryption.

I had to use AnyDVD to help pull off the encryption for DVD Shrink to be able to analyze it.

Also,if you do the main movie only,You will have to change your start point on your backup. Use dvd shrink/re-author/ set the beginning of the movie on the frame where "lady libery" starts. This crap on the beginning is messing up a lot of people's backup copy like mine did. Starting at lady liberty will allow the backup to turn out ok.

I'm not sure how other members are doing on backing up that entire dvd.

You get a free 21 day trial for free for AnyDVD.

Full backup of the Grudge with a time table doing the following:

DVD Decrypter took 42 minutes to decrypt 67 files to the Hard Drive. None were skipped.

DVD Shrink took 12 minutes to do it's thing and
Burned the movie at 8x in 8 minutes. Total time 62 minutes. Full backup with everything except foreign languages. Full compression on everything except Main Movie set to Auto. Plays perfect.

Did the same thing, the same way with the same settings but this time using: AnyDVD & DVD Shrink

DVD Shrink Encoding took 42 minutes and
burning the movie at 8x took 8 minutes
Total time 50 minutes.

So it's your choice but these methods work for sure.

See, I think something is wrong with my computer. It takes me 5 hours if not longer to rip a DVD.

Whats up with that? I use DVD Shrink.

Thanks

In device manager check and see if your Optical Drives are set to DMA mode. They should not be PIO. If they are, just unistall them in device manager and rebooting will find them and correct this issue. Look under IDE controllers and secondary channel if that is where your burner is located and under the advanced tab, you will find DMA or PIO.
