Okay, this is simple.
I want to record the TV Shows I watch each week to a DVD-R. I want to be able to record the show I watch this week on one DVD-R, and then take it out, and the next week add the next show to the same disc.
Will I be able to do this with a DVD-R? Or will I need to use a DVD-RW?

If DVD discs are like CD's you can only do that with a DVD-RW. The RW stands for Re-Writable which means you can add to it after the first time you burned it.
Help me out if I'm wrong guys but I think you'll need RW's.

It ain't where you're from, it's where ya at!

You cant do it with either. Once you burn a dvd, you can't add anything onto it without deleting what is already there. DVD+/-RW only allow you to overwrite the data, not add to it.

If you're using a DVR, which is what it sounds like you're using, the best option is to transfer each weeks shows onto your PC, and complile them there. For that it would be best to use DVD+/-RW, since otherwise you'd be wasting a lot of disks.

Of course, unless you use a lot of compression, you're only going to be able to get about 1 one hour show per dvd in dvd format. That is unless of course you have a divx/xvid/mpeg capable dvd player, like the philips dvp642.

Thanks a lot guys!
I think what we're going to do is burn what we want onto a DVD-RW and create our chapters and such, and then copy the DVD-RW disc to a DVD+R disc on the PC (most especially since we can't manually create chapters on anything other than a DVD-RW). As far as TV Shows go, I think we decided to use just one disc per episode.
If you have any other suggestions, please let me know.
