Hello; I just ordered the NEC 3520A, 16X DVD+R, 8X DVD+RW, 4X DVD+R DL, 16X DVD-R, 6X DVD-RW, 48X CD-R, 24X CD-RW,Read Speed: 48X CD-ROM, 16X DVD-ROM. 2 questions; can you do 16x write on 4x or 8x media or you have to get 16x one to do that, also what do you think about this NEC.

Its a great drive, one of the best, if not the best, available.

About your media question, 4x can't be burned at 16x, but some 8x can be. It just depends on the drive and the media. Check out the official media compatability list. Its for the 3500, but I've found it to be applicable to the 3520 as well:
