Wow, havent been here in like 10 months.

region free on the ilo dvdR04
Check this out http://ilodvd.atspace.com/

If its already been posted sorry, I dont feel like reading through the 9 pages I missed from
the last time I visted. I rember someone had a firmware hack that did this but I think it
messed up my schedule page on the dvd recorder.

I was just wondering if anybody knew about this and if it actually works because i dont
have any foreign films. I just wanna make shure itll work before i blow 20 bucks +
shipping on a dvd.

Thanks, magic chef

Thought I would drop my latest into the mix. My recorder failed, big suprise huh, soI got an RMA and sent it back almost 3 months later it comes back to me, still broken but at least the door opens. I have written back 4 or 5 times and they have not bothered to respond. I guess maybe you only get one repair and then you are on your own maybe?

Anyone else have this experince?

Ilo4 , some DVD+R you record will not play on some dvd players , its that simple , if you put it into a dvd player & it skips/pauses.ect , its not your dvd itsself , but the player you tryng to play it in . be sure the player says it will play DVD+R , even then some don't . I have 6 dvd players , 3 DVD+R play in , 3 dont , and one of those 3 say it does , but it dont , , so try another player is all i can say , or , if you have dvd recorder in your computer , just copy the DVD+R from the ilo & record thru computer to a DVD-R , that works to

Oh yes... they work. the iLo guy I talked to when getting the latest firmware pretty much admitted it. They just didn't have enough "test data" to officially make it compatible.

iLo 040 is junk
Works good for awhile, maybe 45 days then stops Preparing or finalizing. Tried allot, different brands of DVDR + discs. Very often use of Lens Cleaner discs, updating firmware. Don't purchase this unit. The unit is an old model anyway, most stores do not carry it anymore.

Apparently they're not all junk. I've had my 'R04 for over a year now, and it's still going strong.

I have had the ILO dvd r4 for just over a year.. Not many problems till now. It refuses to record shows gives a "Write Fail" message every darn time.

After reading this whole list... I took it apart today and cleaned the lens... There was a little dust but not bad at all. When I tried to record after the cleaning, I still got the same "Write Fail" message as before 1 min and 40 sec into the recording.

Any information on how to fix this problem would be apprecieated... I don't have the $$ to go out even to Wally world and get a new one and I don't want to miss the shows I record.
You can contact me here or at staylor7@maine.rr.com

Thanks

Try contacting Ilo by email and ask them to send you the latest firmware. That may solve your problem. Be patient may take a while for them to answer you.

I sent a iLo 04 model DVD recorder back to them before. They put in
the latest firmware up date and sent it back within two weeks.
That unit worked for two weeks then stopped finalizing or preparing.
The unit I have now is the fifth different 04 I have had. Bought 2,
returned each to Wal Mart and returned one to iLo after an exchange
from Wal Mart. In each case they work for about two weeks and in some cases two months. iLo sent this one back with the words "case closed"
on the paperwork. I am buying a PHILLIPS DVD recorder !

I'm a Katrina evacuee and during my stay in the motel, I had my ilodvdr04 set daily to record for an hour then cut off, but during its recording process, roomservice would come and unplug it to use their vaccume cleaner for cleaning, thats fine and all, but my dvdro4 is doing everything except recording,,, I really believe that its from them umplugging it while in recording process.

is there a restoration hack, or something?>
please respond quick,,
its greatly appreciated.

Take Care

My r05MU will not format disks anymore. I made one recording out of the box and it worked fine. Sat for a few days and now I cannot format anymore. Have tried three brands, HP +R, Memorex +RW, and Great Value +R. They all go about 50% and say "disk error" and "unread disk" then the machine locks up. Any ideas?

Hi Topher420,
If you recorder is less than afew months old, take it back to Walmart ASAP and get something else. Even if it starts working it will be a miracle if it last more than a few months before it dies completly.
The ilo is being replaced with a Magnavox for about the same price. I have had one of these for a couple of months and it has worked great. The only problem I have had is sometimes it seems that the disk has been formated when it has not. It only does this when you are using the -R or -RW not with the +R & +RW Disk. Since I started double checking for this, no problems at all.
The tunner on the Magnavox is at least ten times better than the ilo tunner. The recording quality is about three times better than the ilo, and the dual format is nice. I never thought that would be a big deal, but it is great.
I have had two ilo5 Recorders and they both sucked. I have had two of the ilo4 Recorders. One of them only lasted a few months and the other one has lasted almost a year so for, but the quality of the recordings don't even start to compare to the Magnavox
If you can come up with a little extra money, consider the Pioneer 531 out of the ten or so DVD Recorders I have owned this one is better than all the others put together. If I could afford it I would have one in every room. Some of the Walmart stores have these on close out. I saw one the other day for $249.00 that is about $100.00 less than what they were selling for. There probably won't be any more after the ones they have now is gone.
There are some good quality name brand recorders out there now for just a little more than what the off brands cost. Save your self a lot of grief and spend the extra bucks now. Because for every dollar you save now it will cost you more in the long run. Having to return all the duds is a lot of trouble, not to mention the aggravation.

Good Luck....motorcycl

I found one of the old disks I had burned successfully in the past and it was an Imation DVD+RW. I went to Office Depot and got some more and they work fine. I've made six today with no noticeable effects. Plays well on my CyberHome, Apex, PC, and car DVD players. I guess I'll stick with these until it quits.

Also, I thought I read earlier but not sure, using my PC can I just copy the files the ILO R05 burnt to another DVD to make a copy with say Nero or Roxio? Is there any particular trick to this? What I'm doing is backing up my home movies from MiniDV tapes and I want to make multiple copies without using the ILO.

Thanks

That is funny I just talked to ILO 2 days ago and they say NOT to use Imation (the brand I have been using for many months)... The reason for the "Write Fail" message I get is the imation DVD-R/RW...

Their Techs (cough, cough....) don't know what they are talking about!

Glad u have founs a solution to your problem....

When my 04 iLo was working I burned over 200 and never had a problem
with Imation. I have switched to a Phillips DVD Recorder 3390-37 and so far it has no problem with Imation or Maxell or Sony DVDR +

I just got a response from ILO today:

We do not recommend using Maxell, Memorex, Hp, TDK, Imation or Phillips brands of discs and definitely not the use of DVD-R or -RW?s because recent testing has shown them to be incompatible with our units. We suggest for you to use DVD+RW Sony or Verbatim (not the lightscribe). Only buy small pack for trials. If recommended brands does not work then you may need to update your units BIOS.

The Imation still work for me. However, has anyone updated the R05 units with the ILO firmware download? What is the "front side" and "back side" about?

Not really sure why there is a front end and back end but since I installed them in February I have not had any trouble. Knock on wood.

I think thats is BS when I use Imation and memorexboth + and - with no problems.....I burn 6 to 8 dvds on -R'S everyday...and use them in other machines/computers...so do I have a special unit?.. maybe I could sell it as a rouge machine for scientific study...

I returned by iLo after having two that didn't work, and I instead got a magnavox DVD recorder for 100 bucks. It has many more features than the iLo and has worked for about four months. I won't be reading this thread anymore, then.

BYE BYE!!! AND GOOD LUCK!!

This ilo dvd recorder is a piece of crap.I have wasted a lot of time and money trying to copy my old VHS tapes only to have the unit start pausing during recording.Often it is due to a "poor signal strength"even though I am using gold cables. This also happens when recording from my DVR which should be an excellent signal. It also gives me a lot of ghosting. If it does record it will usually play back on other units but I have had to throw away a lot of disks because of it failing halfway into the recording.I will never buy another ilo product.I guess I got what I payed for.
