I just got a new slim line PS2 (v12 I guess) and I've been researching post after post on these forums and can't seem to figure out the best mod. I have experience modding xbox's and gamecubes so I'm very comfortable with soldering but I'm confused over the whole flip top thing. My PS2 allready has a flip top and do I need that for using a mod chip? I would prefer just to put a backup in and boot up. Don't want to have to swap out discs. So does that mean I need to use a chip? I'm ready to order a chip if thats my answer, but if so I still have some questions

1. Whats the difference between mod chip and Swap magic and ps2lid???

2. If chip is the best solution for me, then which chip is the best solution for slim v12 ps2? Money matters not.

Please respond with a black and white answer for me if you can. I'm sorry to be such a noob but I just have no experience with PS2 at all. I'm more of an xbox guy! Thanks in advance

If you don't want to swap out your backups then that rules out Swap Magic and a fliptop lid. (there is an altered fliptop lid you can get for the slimline that aids the SwapMagic discs in booting your backups)

You will want to go with a modchip then. I'm sure someone'll give you some good advice on which, since i'm a swap magic kinda guy.

I have a due2 se chip. Its the cheapest one you can get that does direct booting of everything. If thats all you want to do then this will work fine.

Look on ANY mod chip website and find the one that says "direct boot......" for all medias and thats what you want. I would have possibly likes going for the DMS4 chip just so I could do DEV mode and NO CD booting on my PS2. But thats because I have a hard drive and find it a hastle to change cd's in my PS2 now.

But for basic playing backups the duo2 se should work just fine.
