I am attempting to encode a couple of movies to dvd using Nero Vision Express ver 3.0.1.27, and am having a problem with maintaining the correct aspect ratio. I have two files that I am trying to encode, an avi and an mp4 movie file, (the MP4 was created by Nero). The avi file has an aspect ratio of 5:2 (screen size 720 x 288) and the Nero mp4 has an aspect ratio of 22:9 (screen size 704 x 288), and both files appear to play perfectly on my pc, using either WMP or Nero's movie player. I have found that when I import either file into the Nero DVD creator, the files are apparently read as 4:3 aspect ratio, when all of Nero's defaults are set to automatic. If I encode using these settings, then the picture gets squashed horizontally and stretched vertically, as might be expected. If I change the defaults to 16:9 then the effect is more or less the same, just a smaller screen size. My question is, concentrating just on the nero mp4 file, is it possible to use Nero to encode a movie file to dvd with this aspect ratio, bearing in mind that it was encoded to MP4 by Nero initially?..or are there other settings that I may be unaware of? Please don't give a list of the hundred and one different software packages out there that may or may not convert properly, this query just involves Nero, and I guess its capacity to re-encode one of its own files...The reason I am asking is that I have backed up some of my own dvd's to Nero digital (mp4) format to save space, but am concerned that I may not be able to restore them to dvd format again. (I only have problems on a few files, ones that seem wider than standard widescreen format - most of the time I can re-encode with Nero without any problems whatsoever)
