Can you use USB external hard drives for the slim PSTwos? If so how do you go about doing this?

No. There has yet to be a USB compatible version of HD Loader or HD Advance released. Also don't expect it to go very fast either. It appears that the USB ports on the PS2's are the 1.1 spec.
