I am not sure if this is the right section,but..........

I did a search on google for "copying dvd's canada illegal". I couldn't really find anything. I did the search because a friend and I were discussing backing up our collections. I find it odd that I can't find a page on the net stating why it is illegal to copy a dvd's in Canada or any other country! There are the warnings at the beginning of every disc, but I wanted to find a description of the copyright law and it's penalties. Any ideas??
