ok. i am brand new to this, but i LOVE dvd movies. however, they are very expensive and i have been told that if i bought a pioneer dvdr burner i can copy dvd movies and play the copies on my set top dvd player on my 55" hdtv. is this correct?? do the dvd burners come with all the software i need to do this to make EXACT copies of dvd movies??? any suggestions on what to buy? also, can anyone explain the difference between dvd-r/dvd+r??? is that just the types of discs? and can i use either in a dvd burner? or do i have to use a specific one for a specific dvd burner??? thanks in advance. i have been researching but it is very confusing. i need straight answers from ppl who know!!!
also, i have been told and have seen that the pioneer dvr-105 seems to be the way to go right now. is that correct? is this what i should be buying to copy dvd movies? please help? Michael

If you buy DVD/R/RW you have to buy DVD/R/RW Disk and if you buy a DVD/+R/+RW you have to buy +Disk one will not record the others disk.
I bought a sony dru120a +writer and it copys
great the +R/RW disk cost alittle more than the
R/RW but I think there better I buy +R disk for under $2.00 and +RW disk for under $4.00
Use the +RW disk to practice with because they can be erased over and over again when you know what your doing and all the bugs are out the copy program you can copy to your R disk, they can't be erased and used over.

to begin the burners do come with software to burn the movies but you really have to know how to use them. most of the software that comes with the burner will say something like this when you try to burn the movie, media not big enough please insert bigger disk. or it will say disk is copyrighted cannot copy. The solution would be to rip the movie to the disk however seeing as you are a newbie this would be quiete difficult to explain to you and even more difficult for you to understand. so then this is what you should do. first of the best drive to by is the one that can burn dvd-r. Why are these drives better than those that can burn dvd+r. Simple really, most old dvd players and almost all new dvd players recognize dvd-r because this media is more compatible with dvd players and further it is the one that is most like the original media that dvd movies are made on today. Next which burner. seeing as pioneer are the first ones who began using/creating dvd-r drives it would be reasonable to conclude that there's are probably the best and seeing as i own a pioneer A-04 and i have had no problems yet i recommend this one. the A-05 still has some bugs in it so i would not reccomend it at this point and even if it did not it is allot more expensive than the A-04. it burns faster this is why. however the A-04 can burn at 2x which equals to about 30minutes to an hour burning depending on your system. i personally would not pay all that extra money just to burn a movie in around 15 minutes. 15 minutes is neither here nor their . Finally the program purchase dvd-x copy this can make an exact copy of your dvd movie you will not be sorry. make sure you install the updated version 1.3 from the net. just download it on their home page cost 99 bucks. Do not install the old version and then the new or you may run into some problems using it. hoped this helped.

In response to the last post, I have been to many stores and online sites doing research. I have noticed that DVD+R is the most compatible (they say about 95% compatible), not DVD-R. If you want to get a burner that does all formats (+R/RW, -R/RW), The SonyDRU-500 is the only one out there that will do that.

If you're gonna live life on your own terms, you've gotta be ready to crash and "burn"

So, If I get DVD-X Copy Pro...all I have to do is put the DVD in My DVD Rom, and a blank DVD R in my DVD R Drive, and it will do all the hard stuff for me?

Hey guys can you help me out? I bought a Bustlink Dvd+RW/dvd+R/dvd-rom/cd-rw/cd-rom drive and I bought the software DvdXcopy, and I keep getting an error message about an illegal operation that my computer is performing when I try to copy a dvd(Barbershop is the one I am making a back-up copy of). I downloaded the software from the site and it was the option called mirror 1. So what am I doing wrong or who do I contact? I am downloading all of the updates, and I still have the problem. Call anyone help?

I your having trouble with dvdxcopy its probably because of your operating system.

this software is not very stable on win\95\98\ platforms. there is also the dvd region issue with dvd drives burners. if you put the dvd in your burner to copy with dvdxcopy, it could be that your burner is locked on to a specific region that wont allow you to acces the disk. But then again im just guessing, peace!
