Hello all,

I've been battling this issue for over a year and could use a fresh approach.

The original Nero software which came bundled with my Sony Dual Layer DvD drive (Drx-700UL) works perfectly. I especially need to use Nero Vision Express.

Everytime I've loaded updates, and there have been several, Nero Vision Express "hangs-up" during transcoding. I now have XP2 but am forced to run the original Nero software that came with the drive.

I've tried "clean" uninstalls using Nero "tools", registry cleaner and a uility to remove "old" drivers.

I'm pissed because the newer versions offer better quality and are quicker. I also don't get "recode" with the older version.

Has this happened to others ?

I use shrink, Decrypter so I'm using Dvd files (vob's)
and I also convert Avi's to Dvd format- As I said, my older version will convert what I throw in there, whereas the newer versions start transcoding then announce some sort of error-either that the structure cannot be built or that the resultant Dvd might be unwatchable, etc. The counters stop turning.

I've tried looking at what background programs are running, etc. The usual suspects. The only thing I know is that when you load software, it shouldn't be too difficult to get it going. When it doesn't work, there's obviously an internal conflict-a setting somewhere...
