nec nd-2100ad won't let nero burn +r discs

nec nd-2100ad won't let nero burn +r discs but it will burn +rw. how can i fix this?

I have the same problem using Nero 6 with a NEC ND-2100AD burner in an HP Media Center that's only 5 months old. I am unable to get any help from Nero or HP. Nero wants me to upgrade the firmware, NEC says get the firmware update from your OEM, HP says they haven't tested the firmware so therefore it doesn't exist and perform a non-destrictive recovery of the OS to verify the software that came with the machine is ok, which won't burn a DVD without a $299 upgrade from Sonic!
