Loud noises when reading copied games

When I'm playing backups my PS2 makes loud noises. And sounds like it is having trouble reading the disc. Skipping during spoken dialogue and FMVs.

But when I play original games it sounds and runs smoothly.

When I'm using swap magic 3.3 and slide magic, I get a red flash. But the game loads.

I'm using Samsung Pleomax DVD-R media and Maxwell CD-R 80/700MB.

Could it be my media? Should I buy more quality media? If so, what do you recommend?

EDIT: I burn using DVD Decrypter at the 1x burn. Though I don't think it's actually burning at that speed.

I don't know how to help you but I can tell you that every backup I've made has a red flash before the game starts and they've always worked for me anyway:)

Wierd. The website for swap magic says, a red flash means it cannot read the disc. Blue is what you're looking for.
