I have a Sony TRV-460 Digital Video Camcorder. In the menu screen, it has an option to burn DVDs, but that option is not highlighted when I hook it up to my PC and when I have started up the software that came with the camera. I called Sony and they told me that that particular camera will only convert the Hi8 tape to VCD on a personal computer. The person also told me that the ?Direct Burn? feature I saw on the menu will only work on a Sony Viao Computer. That?s retarted.

So, my wife and I just had a little girl and I want to make my own DVDs so I can get that footage off the Hi8 tapes and re-use them. I am not interested in paying for someone to transfer them for me---because I want to do it myself.

Here?s my sound card?its an audigy 2 ZS with IEEE 1394 capability:

Here?s my Vid Card?it?s an ATI 700XT:

Here?s my Computer Specs:

Dell Dimension 8400
Pent 4 3.0 HT w/800FSB
1 gig 533 DDR2 Ram
160 gig HD
DVD+ burner 4x
CD-R Burner, etc, etc, etc?.

My Sony TRV-460 is here, and it has an IEEE port, AV ports, a S-Video port, and a USB device to record in VCD to the hard drive.

If anyone could help me with this I would be eternally grateful. I am wanting to go the cheapest route possible, but still have a good quality DVD as a finished product.

Thanks in advance for all those thoughtful enough to respond:)

Don't know what kind of video s/w you have but maybe you could at least use Win Movie maker to suck that footage thru the IEEE port and have it on you Hard drive. At that point the options are up to you for editing/authoring then burning to dvd.
