I've burned a few ESBuy generic DVDs with only 1 issue of my Sony DVD player not recognizing the disk. The Sony did recognize other ESBuy disks, so I'm guessing their disk quality is marginal. I'm interested in buying more disks (25 to 50 pack). I have a G4 Mac with a DVR104 drive with 1.33 firmware. I've read a bunch of postings and it sounds like the two best types of low cost DVD-Rs are Princo and Ritek. Which do you prefer? If you have used either have you had any problems with 1X or 2X DVD burns?

I have been using the Ritek silver/purple media. This media will burn at 2x if you have only the firmware 1.31, but I went back to the 1.33 firmware and just burn at 1x because every so often I would get a disk that would freeze in playback about 30min or so into the disk. Havn't had any problems since I went back to 1x. I did research the 2x issue some, it looks like there are diff batch numbers that work well with 2x and some that don't. I have no idea how you would go about making sure you got some out of the right batch, hah! Sure can't beat the price on these, got mine for .83 apiece for a 100pk.

Is it easy to go back to firmware 1.31? I assume it is the same as going to 1.33. Does anyone have the link for the 1.31 firmware? I don't think I will try 2X for now until people start reporting more success. I honestly don't mind waiting the extra time to guarantee a good burn. Especially when archiving critical home video footage. So far I found Princo disks for 50/$35 and Ritek for 25/$25. If the quality and performance is the same, I'll go for Princo. Thanks for the responses.
