There's only a 'read' speed setting in the 'device' tab.

Are you guys using 8x max media? Sometimes it seems 8x media doesn't like going lower than 4x burning.

I am using Sony DVD+Rs 4X and they work well for me, but I tried Taiyo Yuden DVD+R 8X and they don't work for me at all.

Nope, I've never written below 4X. Is there some checkoff box for maximum performance that I can uncheck or something? I changed the speed on the drop down box but it totally ignores that.

come on someone must have the answer!!
I can only burn at max of the media used no matter what I set the burn speed at in the drop down menu.
Do i have to reg the product, is it something to do with the dvd burner settings, I can not find anything. someone must know, everybody says burn at 1x.

Well, I did some research on my burner and I found out it doesn't burn DVD+Rs at 1X, the slowest it will go is 2.4X. I am checking out the properties for the drive to see if anything is checked off that is maximizing the speed. I would suggest you do the same. Other than that I am at a loss.

Make sure your drive speed can go that low. The actual speed depends upon the capabilities of the drive and the media. If your drive can only burn as slow as 4x but your media can burn at 2x, you're still stuck at 4x. That's just the way it is. That's why I still use a 4x max burner.
