short story, bought a v7 ps2 with some laser problems (which is mostly fixed right now, well, to a working point anyways) and a magic v. I gave them both to my friend so he could mod it for me. An year later, he finally mods it. I have a bunch of backups (which happen to be an year old), a couple bootlegged dvds (from china), and 2 psx games (real ones). First, I tried all of them after just turning on the ps2, and in each case, the screen stays blank, no reaction at all. Then, I tried all of them after turning on the ps2 by holding reset for 5 seconds. In this case, the logo popped up, so I believe all original functionalities of the ps2 have been restored (function of the modchip). I try the backups, and they all give me the misty red "please insert ps or ps2 game". With FF7 (real copy, all three discs) it gives me the same red misty message. With tekken 3 (real copy) it thinks it's an audio disc (but I had the same problem with my ps, so I think it's just a funny disc). With one of the dvds' I get a disc read error, no surprise, finally, on my last try, with another dvd it plays perfectly.
Anyone have any idea what could be wrong? Thanks.
edit: well, I found the operating procedures... They aren't really helping though. It says for ps2 games, just a quick tap on reset button from standbye. This works occaisionally, and on those few occaisions, it goes through the fancy start up animations, and then goes to the menu thingy. On the right, is my memory card, on the left is a ps2 disc. When I hit x after selecting the ps2 disc, it fades, and goes back to the same menu. WHen I insert a ps disc, it gives me the same red misty message. When I insert another ps2 game, it stays on "reading disc" forever".
Then, the operating manual says for ps games, press and hold until blue light on eject comes on. When I do this, blank scren, and nothing happens.
