Hello,

I was recently made aware that you cannot backup a certain PS2 boot disk. Specifically, the one called SwapMagic. The helper who answered my question stated that it was because SwapMagic is a "Pressed" disc and, accordingly, can't be backed up.

Anyway, I am wondering if anyone in this section of the boards may have more detailed knowledge in this field.

Thanks for any light anyone can shed on this issue!

My PlayStation2:

Version:SCHP-50001/N
Backup Mode: FlipTop Cover (Blue) & SwapMagic 3.3
Media of Choice: Verbatim DVD-R
Software: DVD Decrypter (READ)
Alcohol 12

Let's think about this for a second. CD and DVD video games are pressed. So are DVD movies and music CD's. Can those be backed up? Obviously the problem isn't that it is pressed, it is that a burner isn't capable of reproducing the way it is formatted on the disc.

The thing is I had heard you could back up SwapMagic. Why don't you ask in the correct forum.

You should keep all questions to the appropriate forums. But just to reiterate what has been repeated thousands of times, you can not back up a SM disk.

As far as 'more detailed knowledge', hopefully this will satiate your curiosity. :)

The PS2 boots original games by reading information that is located in the outer edge of the hub. Burners can't duplicate this. Nor will they ever be able to, since it would require a significant redesign. In effect, they would have to be designed specifically to backup PS2 games. And I'm sure you can imagine why that will never happen.
