dvd player won't work

I put a dvd into my dvd player and it tries to load and then a screen pops up that says to eject the disc and that the dvd does not have the playback feature on it. I'm trying to play actual dvds...movies that i bought in stores. Nothing burned or anything. I was just wondering if anybody knew how to fix this? Thanks
