Would I ever need to use it? I have SM3.3 with slide tool, and the couple of things I've burnt have worked just by using the Swap Magic DVD followed by inserting the backup copy of the game.

So whats DVDLoader used for, and under what circumstances would I need to use it?

swap magic 3.3 has it built in, so you shouldn't ever need to use it.
