Burned DVDS do not advance beyond menu screen

I have a LITE-ON SOHW-812S, using NERO VISION 2, and i made perfectly fine VCDS with the program, and DVDs seem to burn without problems, however when i try to play it on any dvd player, either on the computer or my standalone players, it will not advance beyond the menu screen. on the computer, menus are at least clickable, and the software will freeze, and eventually crash. on the standalones, the menu is as far as i can go. please help
