I just purchased a Pioneer A05 and I have some problems with the software.
Enclosed with the burner is the Sonic-MyDVD and Instant CD/DVD.
Reading through the forums I discovered Prassi Primo and DVD Decrypter software were advised.
Both programs I downloaded and both can't recognize the Pioneer A05.
Is this normal, aren't they compatible, should I use other software to back-up my PS2 games and DVD's?
I'm a very old fashioned Windows 98 (1st edition) user. Can this have something to do with it?
Does anyone have any experiance with the Sonic MyDVD and Instant CD/DVD software?
Please respond.

PrimoDVD is old program. You may need to get the update pxEngine358 on there wedsite. This may solve the problem. I have a Pioneer DVR105 and had the same problem. I did try the update but dint work for me. Im using windows xp and get a runtime error. But theres like a new version of PrimoDVD Recordnow Max 4.10 then update to 4.5 this program rules and recognize all the pioneer dvdrw. For PS2 Games u need pioneer dvdr or some like pioneer media quality. PS2 is quite picky on reading some dvdr media. So u may fail the firts time on backing ur PS2 games if u have cheap dvdr media like i had =) But pioneer works great.

The A05 doesn't work with PrimoDVD. Use Recordnow Max instead. It's basically got the same features as PrimoDVD with the same kind of GUI but with better options.

If you want a guide for Recordnow max for burning PS2 games go here:
http://www.psxcopyworld.co.uk/RecordNow_Max_Tutorial.htm
Use the latest version of Nero for burning DVD movie files i.e VOB, IFO, BUP etc, thats if your making a backup of a DVD5 movie (Single Layer). But first you must remove the protection via Smartripper, remove macrovision then burn the files back with nero. I personally use this program as it's quick and easy.

I have serious problems butning with my new A05. I used to have an A02 which worked great but was slow. After upgrading to A05 I rarely get one good copy when I burn - I'm so pissed.
What really gets me is that the programs, Nero (latest) and DVDXCOPY always tell me it's ok but when looking on the film in my computer it usually lock up somewhere in the middle and they almost never work in my stand alone DVD-player.
Is there a firmaware-issue or so?
Have you noticed these problems?

Right people calm down, were here to help one another not to swear.
Genius1
Here is the homepage to obtain RecordnowMax 4.50 latest version. http://www.stompinc.com
Also, what version of nero have you got? You need V.5564 and above to choose the option to copy dvd's, etc.
Crotzari.
What version of DXC do you have? I would reccommend d/l either 1.30 or 1.31. If your copying a DVD-5 (Single Layer) use Smartripper to rip the files, remove protection, etc. Then use Nero to burn the files back. Regards to your movies locking up, it could be the media that your using. Go for branded Dvd-r media. Also, try switching between Standard (ISO/UDF) and (Alternate UDF). I have to change to UDF if wanna copy a dvd and watch it on my Xbox. This could be the same for the Dvd player that your using.

I had the same problem. One DVD burn good and few more didnt work. i update the firmware and do not have this problem anymore.
I have Pioneer 105. If the firmware dont solve the problem try to use Recordmax 4.5 use the ifoedit guide. Maybe DVDXX is the problem.

What version is your firmware now crotzari?
I also had some problems when updateing the newest firmware for the a05. I can still burn perfect movies with ritek media and stomp record now max, but now the disk explorer doesent work says drives not ready. I had to revert to a diferent version to burn... really weird. bye the way ive tryed other types of media aswell maxell tdk, memorex, all burn fine, just that the drive properties and disk explorer dosent funtion gives me this message "drive not ready insert disk". so now I have use the wizzard and then click data to burn. Once ive done that it will get to 98% done and then freeeze for about 30 40 minutes at 98% then it pops my disk out.after that I played dvd rip and it works 100% flwless. I thought it was toast. well now im looking for other burning software to try; got any ideas any one.

Hi !
I don't know which version I have of the firmaware. I took your advice and downloaded the trialversion of stomps RecordNow Max 4.5 and it works perfectly. Even with those cheap BulkDVDs I get a pefect burn (only, sometimes the program chooses to set burnspeed to a measly 1X...).
Currently I'm looking for a shop that sell RecordNow Max here in Sweden since I feel awkward about using my creditcard over internet to shop.
I urge everyone who burns DVDs to try this program si9nce it's free to use for 30 days.

My friend and I have found that when using cheap BulkDVD-R we can't make a good 4.7 GB burn all the time. Seems that there's a common problem with burning above 4 GB on the cheaper DVDs. When we're burning with werbatim DVD-R media, the same files and the same program, it never fails... I guess you get what you pay for. Strangely enough though, when burning filmDVDs larger than 4 GB in recordnow Max on cheap DVDs it now works. But If I start up the latest version of Nero and creates a DVD (UDF) that allows for DVDs larger than 2 GB I still can't add files above 4 GB and be certain that they will be readable. Works with Verbatim every time though...
