I've just burned my first dvd, using dvd shrink re-author. It worked great, except the dvd plays straight through both movies. How can I put a menu in there, so I can chose which movie I want to watch first?

Hi kbearmone, welcome to aD,

To answer your question, You can't !

If you wish to have a working menu try using DVDLab then edit, combine etc. use nero's Recode2. It works much like DVD Shrink but retains your menu after re-Authoring.

Here are somne related links:

DVDLab - excellent custom menu and authoring tool

30-day trial -
Nero Ultra Edition 6.6 - http://www.ahead.de/us/nero6-ultraedition.php
PLUS
Nero recode2 - http://www.ahead.de/us/632261771103079.php

Finally, since Nero doesn't have a ripper, may I suggest AnyDVD - at this point in time the best ripper available anywhere.
21-day trial, AnyDVD - http://www.slysoft.com/en/anydvd.html

Cheers,

I am not trying to recover my original menu. I never had a menu. I'm putting together episodes from a tv series that I recorded. Can I create a menu, that will allow me to chose which eps. I want.

If you want to retain the original working menu, rip the entire disc to your hdd then edit out the garbage you don't want with DVD Remake then encode and compress if necessary with your choice of encoding software.

I want to know this too!

Is it not possible at all to create some type of menu or list of files that are put onto one dvd.

I have used dvdshrink to convert some TV eps and than I put them on to a disc using dvd decryptor. It worked fine and the quality seems to be the best I have had yet. The only problem is you have to watch from the fist episode right through to the last because it makes it into one file basically. Is there anyway to create a custom menu and insert it in so that you can select the episode you want to watch?

What program do you want to do it with ?

After you've done your custom menu you could make it fancy with this ~

I want to make my own menu and still burn using dvd shrink and dvd decryptor - - is that possible? I have read so much stuff I am confused weather or no I can do this.

I will try to explain. The original files I am using are .avi which I have converted to VOB (Video_ts) with WinAVI. Then with DVD shrink I am converting VOB files to ISO and then burning to a dvd+R with DVD Decryptor. I found this to be pretty good quality.

I have Nero with the video codec so I can convert .avi to DVD and burn in this program as well. But the quality isn't as good (as DVD Shrink & Dvd Decryptor). When I use Nero the square pixels are enlarged when a character moves quickly for example. (I don't know how to explain that part!)

Anyway, I wanted to use DVD Shrink and DVD decryptor to burn my DVD+R. The files (originally .avi) I am burning do not have a menu and so I want to make a menu and put it in to DVD Shrink before I burn with DVD decrypter.

So I suggest to you a 3rd time,

Use DVDLab ~

The only thing to remember is tht if you use DVD Shrink to pick it up after you've made your menu, you must stay in the full disc mode to maintain your menu.
