I dont think size of file set is the problem , but here's what I've tried;
1) VHS movie captured as mpeg2 file. Movie is 2:10 in
length , so vobs etc amount to 11 gigabyte in size.
(that was a surprise to me....) I then used VSO's
DivXtoDVD app to transcode the mpg to vob, ifo, bup
files.
2) I tried DVDShrink , over and over, but I get error
message , always the same, that a problem was
encountered with "VTS_01_9.vob"
3) I tried work-arounds, like renaming to .mpg , to
see if that one file would run...and it DID, just
fine!! It ran just that portion of the movie that
it pertained to. So what was 'Shrinks problem with
same file in .vob format??
4) I tried substituting another 1gig .vob , renamed
to match problem file, and 'Shrink still came up
with same error message pointing to vts_01_9.vob.
5) finally , I used the VOB Extras button ( not
knowing what it's for) , and found option to "fix"
vob structures and navigation . That took a while
to do.....but , alas, was no help as far as
DVDShrink problem was concerned.

I had used the DivXtoDVD app on smaller mpg files
and 'Shrink opened them with no error message.
Any ideas??

The DVD specification has a upper limit of about 9Gb. Thats why DVD Shrink can't handle your files.

Wondering what good this DivX2DVD app can serve?? if a 2 hr mpg file transcodes even close to 11 gig set of .VOB etc. I'm not going to burn 2 DVD discs per VHS movie, and I dont think I could adjust the settings enough to create the smaller .mpg source file, nor would I want to since working from VHS standard to begin with.
Even if 'Shrink could handle the 11 gig, would not the end product be seriously compressed in order to fit one DVD disc?
Opinions...........
