In order to find your BIOS version, boot up your PS2 with no disc and no memory card. You'll be taken to your system configuartion screen. Choose:
CONFIGURATION
hit "O"
It should be there in a nice little list.
If your PS2 doesn't boot or you just don't feel like doing the above, can you write in the following - all of which is located on the rear of the unit?
Model #: SCHP:
Serial#: First two digits ONLY
Date Code: Towards the bottom of the label, it will usually have one letter and one number.
Good luck
My PlayStation2:
Version:SCHP-50001/N
Backup Mode: FlipTop Cover (Blue) & SwapMagic 3.3
Media of Choice: Verbatim DVD-R
Software: DVD Decrypter (READ)
Alcohol 12

Thanks for responding mate!
It looks like your system is a version 3.
Try this:
1) With no disc or memory card in your system, power it up with only one controller connected.
2) Once the screen appears following the little PS2 intro thing, hit "TRIANGLE." This should bring up everything you need, i.e. disc driver, bios, and more.
Also, and don't quote me here, I am pretty sure Version 3's BIOS are: O20
Good Luck and post back

hey, i was looking under the directions for installing the modchip and for version three the only option is the 020 bios, but it has gap and not gap. Also before the bios number it has GH004, or GH005-7, is this number part of the bios, or perhaps a model fo the chip? I am not home right now so i will check my ps2 when i get home for thebios but i was jw about that, thanx.

Hmm...
I think I am getting baffled here.
Is your system a USA model, e.g. NTSC?
Also, as for the modchip and everything, does it only mention those two motherboards?
Oh, and btw, the GH-00X are the motherboard numbers.

it is a us version.
GH004, GH005, GH006, GH007 are all on there, heres the link to it, just click on magic 3.1 plus. http://www.mod-chip.com/directions.htm As for under version on my ps2 all i see is console, the driver info, cd, and dvd thing, nothting that says anyhting else besides SCHP-30001. What does diagnosis do, woudl that determine anything?

Hey,
I thought you would be able to see your BIOS version there as well - at least I can. Perhaps that's something that is featured on new models...
Anyway, I am almost certain that you have the following:
PlayStation2 NTSC
Version 3
Bios Version - 020
Motherboard: GH006
Now, the only thing I am not too sure of is whether or not you have the GH006 GAP or GH006 NOGAP.
So, to answer that question, I started another thread in the General Backups Discussion Section. Specifically, this thread:
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/166088
Hopefully with a specific title like that, someone with more knowledge will be able to definatively tell you which board you have. You may want to "Subscribe" to the thread.
Hope we can a response soon mate!
