when I convert movies over some play and some don't. I get a message on tv screen saying (playback prohibited by area limitations but not on all movies ty jc..

Strange. Maybe it's just because some were NTSC (area 1) some were PAL (area 2)?
But I never had a similar error; maybe your DVD player has some protecion that forces it to not open on-original movies....dunno...
