I was just encoding "school of rock" and for some reason it took 2hrs 30 min to encode. I wasnt running anything else with it and it still took forever. It just seems like it used to go faster than this and just keeps getting slower. I just dont know what could be bogging it down so much.

How much compression was there? Did you enable deep analysis and quality enhancement?

No I have compress video with high quality adaptive error compensation:sharp (default). The Backup quality settings box is blacked out so I am not able to turn it on anyway.

Using the quality enhancements could cause you to have the slow encoding times. You could also check to make sure your data transfer is in dma and not pio:http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/device/storage/IDE-DMA.mspx
good luck

I thought DMA and PIO modes were just for ripping movies with dvd-decrypter. Ok I read in there and I changed all the drop down menus to DMA if available. How do you tell which device is 0,1,2 etc?

Ok I did that and now its test time.....crosses fingers....ha. Well it is still running pretty slow. Its just under 2 hours now at about 1,194 KB/s but it should be going way faster than that I think but not sure how to fix it. Seems when I first started shrinking movies they went alot faster.
Ok well I just took off compress video with high quality adative etc etc and it is going between 5500 and 6000 KB/s.

the quality enhancements, take quite a bit longer, but are worth it.You could try another program, when the compression gets too high, but none of the other options are free.
