I've got a divx file and a .sub file. I tried simply burning them both on to a cd, but when I play the movie in my stand alone divx player I don't see the subtitles.
What do I have to do?
Thanks guys!

Hi,

i have the same problem. After burning the subtitles file i can see it either. Can i ask you one question? i tried burning few divx movies onto the dvd using nero as a data file but after burning when i play it on the dvd player there are no black bars up and down and the picture looks quite zoom in. How can i fix this? i want the format to be exactly the same as source.

Thanks

Can't help you with that one - you might try burning each divx file on to single CDRs and see if you have the same problem?

You can use fuse.exe to mux your subs into your .divx file.

No problems here with AVI files and external subs though. Guess maybe external subs don't work with divx files as it expects internal subs?

celtic - can you tell me how you add your subtitles to AVI files? perhaps I am missing something. I've tried winsubtitler but it seems to not be able to put them on without a background box to the words.

I just want a nice, simple solution that will allow me to add a video file, subtitle file and render the combination in a form that I can put on DVD.

How?!

VSFilter and AVISynth. You can then frameserve the AVI complete with subs to whatever you use form MPEG2 encoding.

VSFilter contains textsub for text formats and VobSub for VOB subs.

Having already got VirtualDub, the most important thing is to be precise in how you install and use VobSub. Follow the directions in the guide precisely. Make sure all checks it details, you also detail. Soon enough you'll no longer need to look, as it will be a matter of course.

Thanks to all in advance,

Today was following Ade's article, http://divxstation.com/article.asp?aId=100
about burning subtitles and had good success, however my finished subtitled AVI is a bit choppy. Otherwise it is quite good.
I am wanting some help in fine tuning using virtual dub with VobSub plugin.
Hoping to get a result that is closer to the very excellent copy of the original.

Thanks,

A number of DVD authoring packages support subtitles. You could do a google search for them and pick out a few. Most will give trial downloads.

Thanks Jim,
I will search some and try.
Was wondering, after looking at properties of both the original and subtitled result. Do any of these values explain why my subtitled avi is choppy?

Original
Framerate-25frames/sec
Data rate-160kps
Video sample size-12 bit
Compression-Xvid

Subtitled version
Framerate-25frames/sec
Data rate-165kps
Video sample size-24 bit
Compression-Xvid

Hi guys,
I made everything exactly as described here.
VirtuaDub shows a desired movie WITH subs on the output display. BUT when I try to run the created file in VirtualDub or Windows player or DVD X Player, the only display is a black screen, no movie and no subs. The file size seems to be OK (100's megas). What have I made wrong?
Please advise!
