Help for reading subs for Yamaha DVD-S550

A friend of mine just got a Yamaha DVD-S550. It is a DVD player equivalent with Philips DVP642, only it plays without errors XviD files encoded with AC3 and also all files WMV that my friend put into it. And it costs twice but this is another discussion!

Well it seems to be a little problem with the subtitles for DivX and XviD files. It cannot read anything no files .srt, no .sub nothing. Instead of that it shows a question mark for all subtitles.

Any hints on what should my friend do to read subtitles? I cannot help him because my Philips DVP 642 reads all, even if the subtitles are not named with the same name as the movie or if the subtitles are in other folder.

Damn, I even made a CD with 3 subs in 3 different language (English, French and Spanish), and Philips reads all!!

But in case of Yamaha?.Any reviews, any help with that?
