I use dvd shrink and dvd decrypter religously and it has never failed me until now. Has anyone successfully backed up Ladder 49? If so, with what tools?

Ladder 49 gave me NO Problems at all using DVDShrink in Re-Author mode, drag Title 1 ( Main movie ) over, check your compression settings. Closer you get to 100% the better. I was able to acieve 100%. This means NO Compression by the way. Burned with Nero on TDK 8x+R Media. turned out SUPER!!! Untick the audio settings all but the English. Leave that. It will work.

bunnyrip,
can you explain the re-author mode for me. I usually use the other option with DVD Shrink and decrypter. i usually just "open disc", encode, then burn with DVD Decrypter. Never used re-author. Thanks for any info you can give.

I cant make a backup copy of Ladder49 with Shrink and re author as many have sugggested, why??
I have never had a problem with ANY Dvd yet , until now.
It will rip and burn , but picture looks encrypted.
Usually with shrink I can see movie as its being ripped but for this movie its either black or a green screen.
I am running AnyDVD and dvd region free in the background also. Using same media and burner as always.
Confused, please help.
Thanks in advance.

With Ladder 49, DVD Shrink can decrypt the movie by itself. No need to run AnyDVD in the background. So far, I have only needed AnyDVD for the latest Sony encrypted movies. But with those, you MUST use either AnyDVD or DVD Decrypter. (Latest Version of Decrypter) DVD Shrink Re-Author mode is very easy. Open disc, analyse, then click Re-Author. Drag Title 1 over to the left. Usually this IS the main movie. Then, check your compression settings, you can untick the audio titles other than English. I leave the sub picture as is. Then click Bacup. That's it! Nero, Latest version works best with DVD Shrink. By the way, the closer you get to %100 compression the better. It's actually alittle confusing. BUT, %100 compression means NO Compression on the movie!

Well, not sure what caused the problem that I couldn't make a backup copy of Ladder49 but I finally got it to work.I had just installed another DVD Burner( pioneer 109) to my all ready installed (lg, DVD burner) and I noticed that the pioneer was a slave and it should be master, so I made the switch to correct any possible problems. Also , changed my IDE wire to 80 from 40wire as recommended by pioneer.I stopped using AnyDVD in the back ground too, so in the end I used DVD Shrink with DVD region+css free(not sure if it was needed to be running?)Burned with Nero at 12X with Taiyo Yuden8x+R media and received great results.

bunnyrip, I was able to use DVD Shrink and achieve a 60% compression and got the whole DVD, you just re -authored to get just the movie itself at 100% compression.
My question is , do you really noticed a difference form 60 to 100 percent compression?
If so , maybe I should be just ripping the movie itself.
Thanks for your advice and findings. Appreciated.

Is there some reason why getting the complete Disc functionality (menus etc..) is a problem with Ladder 49? If so, is there a work around for it?

DADDYM,
On compression, is there a difference? Well I have asked the same question. I think it depends on the movie, the tv you are watching on, and the wires you use. If the movie uses a lot of computer generated graphics, like Star Wars or something, yes I do see some differences. The tv can make a difference, if you compress the heck of out something and its a big screen tv like projection, you can see it. Also if you are using bad wiring like a cheap s-video cable or RCA jacks that can compound the problem. I always reauthor using dvdshrink and boost the compression by burning the movie. On a 2 hour disk I usually do 80% or better. But if its a long movie I split in 2 disks and get the 100% compression ratio.
Also On ladder 49. Crappy movie...wannabe backdraft..but I burned....no issues.

I used decrypter to rip to my HD and then compressed/burned with shrink. Worked perfectly with full menu functionality.
