Burning is pissing me off.

Ok guys I just started in on this dvd-r stuff. and I am trying to use two burners. I have a sanyo stand alone burner, and a plextor burner hooked up to my macs. I am running through a flat screen Imac, and a mac mini. Both on OSX. First of all on the plextor, Can I get IDVD to burn for me. I keep getting this No Superdrive warning. I can burn through Toast. But I can't figure out how to use Idvd. Second the Sanyo's dvds are for footage that I need to be able to rip and edit. I am using Mac the Ripper to rip. But the files automaticly format to VLC media player. with the format .vob, any ideas on how to get the format to be editable in Imovie.
