Hi. I have a Sony VAIO, purchased last summer. I have just made my first DVD, which was transfering a VHS tape.

My problem is this: the copy reads fine on my computer, and fine on my new DVD....but most other people's DVD's won't read it right. Some get audio, but scrambled video. Some get video, but no audio. Any fixes??

That sounds like a video codec issue. What video editing program are you using? Did it allow you to select the codec?
