Hey,

I have a CD-R stuck in my drive and it's still writing the lead-out for all I know. Can somebody tell me how to get it out without shutting down?

It's still in there, I don't want to shut down.

Somewhere on the front bezel of the drive you'll see a pinhole, push a paperclip in it and the disc will eject. This is the manual eject for the drive

No problem my friend. Hope you got it out before you shattered it.

A messy scene....

shatter the drive or the cd? Anyway, thanks, I finally shut down but I ran into the problem again and took your advice -- hope I haven't worn down any machine parts.

That would be to shatter the CD.

I've yet to see a shattered drive, and don't really care to, because it'll more than likely be mine!!

ddp, is correct, it's a $@#$'in MESS!!

SHATTERED!!! Your kidding right....oh my lord

That actually can happen????

Never heard of that. But did once get a cd stuck, but just shut down and restarted, before it booted up hit the eject button.

the disk just exploded in the drive as i think it was spinning out of control. darn near scared the shit out of me when it went off. there was plastic & aluminum all over the inside of the drive from the cd so had to take drive apart to clean the pieces of the cd out. so yes it does happen & so far only once in 10yrs with a cd drive too

On a softer note, it is a good idea to check disks before they go in, because all it takes is a hairline crack in one and BAM!

Especially when there our younger ones around that have assess to disks. They really do make quite a projectile when forced in the air against a wall!!!

LOL
