Bitsetting a PS2 DVD+R backup

I'm using Verbatim 8x DVD+R (MCC-003) for PS2 backups.
I was just wondering,is it better to bitset the disc to +ROM or just leave it at +R when burning?
Because I get the feeling that the PS2 lens reads louder(faster) when the disc is bitsetted to +ROM.

I've been told by some people that they've had more success with ROM setting.
