I am here to mainly monitor my kids activity and yes I take it personally when someone attacks them.

if you don't like what someone posts you can report them to a Mod or ignore them, personal insults and name calling help no one.

aabbccdd, it isn't world championship if only played in the us. hockey, soccer, rugby, cricket & others are played in different countries & have world series. baseball is played in different countries but "world series" only involves the us & canada.

It's strictly the NFL Championship game. By reasoning, if all countries of the world don't compete in a World Championship tournament for any sport's championship, then it's not a true "world" championship. I guess Olympics comes closer to a true World Champion than any other tournament.

I am positive the Colts will settle for Super Bowl Champs and the accompanying ring and bonuses. LMAO

This is almost unbelievable! This may be a first... A couple from Montana were out riding on the range, he with his rifle and she (fortunately) with her camera. Their dogs always followed them, but on this occasion a Mountain Lion decided that he wanted to stalk the dogs (you'll see the dogs in the background watching). Very, very bad decision... The hunter got off the mule with his rifle and decided to shoot in the air to scare away the lion, but before he could get off a shot the lion charged in and decided he wanted a piece of those dogs. With that, the mule took off and decided he wanted a piece of that lion. That's when all hell broke loose... For the lion. As the lion approached the dogs the mule snatched him up by the tail and started whirling him around. Banging its head on the ground on every pass. Then he dropped it, stomped on it and held it to the ground by the throat. The mule then got down on his knees and bit the thing all over a couple of dozen times to make sure it was dead, then whipped it into the air again, walked back over to the couple (that were stunned in silence) and stood there ready to continue his ride... As if nothing had just happened. Fortunately even though the hunter didn't get off a shot, his wife got off this one.

THIS GUY HAS A REAL BITCH

US immigration cavity search ends in agony
Official pulled 'very hard'
By Chris Williams → More by this author
Published Monday 5th February 2007 15:21 GMT

US immigration officials insisted the sufferer of an anal infection remove a small piece of medical thread which was being used by doctors to treat the condition. The man required treatment under general anaesthetic as a result.

The man had an anal fistula, which is a painful channel that can develop deep into the anus, caused by infection or digestive conditions such as Crohn's disease. More details, if absolutely necessary, from NHS Direct here.

Arriving on holiday in New York in August last year, the unnamed 48-year-old was interrogated and searched by immigration officers, according to a letter appearing in medical journal The Lancet. The rectal examination discovered a device called a seton, which doctors in the UK had inserted into the fistula to help control long-term infection.

The seton was made of a blue braided medical suture material knotted and passed into the hole where the fistula surfaced. After one baffled immigration officer pulled "very hard" on the seton, the patient was given the choice by the baffled immigration officers of either getting on the next plane home, or submitting himself to a procedure to have it removed.

Happily, as The Lancet's correspondent notes, the curious immigration officer yanking the seton did not damage "the anal sphincter muscles encircled by it".

The seton was duly removed by an airport doctor, who claimed to have no idea what it was. The man now requires treatment under general anaesthetic to have a replacement inserted.

The letter writer concludes by advising seton patients to carry a letter from their doctor when travelling "to the USA or any other country where they are likely to be searched in this manner".

Read the wince-inducing letter here (free registration required).

I am still around. I count myself as an "Old Timer", although I haven't been around too long (since 27 November 2003).

I read this thread and I can't believe what the thread starter said

Quote:
Asking how to use a keygen is not piracy it is for educational purposes since they are impossible to use.
Haha, yeah, groups create KeyGen's etc. just so you can have a pretty looking program that sometimes plays cool music on your desktop. :p

I have work tomorrow but its not until 5 and I actually get along with the person I am working with pretty well so its all good.

OK, I do have a few things I have to complain about:

1) I don't have a full time job yet. Sounds funny that I want to have one but I just have too much time on my hands without one.

2) No call back yet from the bank, tomorrow or wednesday I am going to call Dave, who conducted my interview, and ask him when I could have the other interview setup.

3) I called my hopefully-soon-to-be girlfriend today. Nothing bad between us went on but she is trying out for the talent show, doing some singing, and she found out that I can't be in the auditorium where the auditions are held while she is auditioning.

It kind of makes sense but I have seen people in years past go to their friends auditions so I was bummed to hear I couldn't go to her's.

But, I think I am going to go over there anyway and meet up with her after, and maybe before, her audition to show her some support.

Peace

@ireland: even if Windows Visitor (intentional misspelling) were free i wouldn't want that DRM-laden piece of bunk. XP + SP2 is fine. i was looking around a few linux forums & they said i should give FreeBSD a try. It's what Hotmail/yahoo/CDrom.com had been using for years. so if it has full Linux support there's a certain 31337ness to making it run on ye home computer. I think i'm up for a challenge this weekend

I know this has been bitched about time and time again...but here goes...padding your posts counts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You should make levels dependent on helpfullness to others. Posting follow ups everywhere like. Thanks, Great work. Thanks for the tip is very annoying especially when it does nothing to contribute to the thread.

Sometimes there is no answer to a post BECAUSE IT WAS NOT NEEDED. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. I try hard to edit my posts and keep the numbers down so that relevant information will prevail! ARG! Now I guess I could be an addict or senior member too if I went around and did this. Is this not against the forum rules!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It used to be on a system where mods or admins decided who got premoted I beleive. And post padding is against the rules, but mods have enough on their plates to be dealing with this kind of thing I suppose. Also, there are only a few of the regular mods around at present, so...

Yeah, ripper, you're right. With all the smacktards (gotta love that word!) around the poor mods are way busy. That's why I just bitched about it a little. You'd think the search box is biting people or something too, cause it's REAL lonely. lol...

Posts in the Safety Valve area don't count towards member ranks. It took a long while to get that rule in place. I still see post padding in other areas like members using the QUOTE feature without adding more information or any reply. I let the first couple of those go by thinking maybe they just don't know how it works. After 6 or 7 of those by the same person, I hit the REPORT button and let the mods know whats going on. If you think someone is post padding, report it and let the mods check it out.

Jerry

@aabbccdd & Jerry746 - Oh yes, I know these don't count and thank GOODNESS. With all my chatter on here I would be a mod god...giggle...don't want THAT job. No fun... all reprimanding, kinda like a jr high school teacher. More power to them someone has to mod this place!

I hesitate to report people unless is is very offensive or very illegal. But you have a point if it is a continuous issue then it should be brought to the mods attention. I will re-consider the report button after several transgressions. I think they could be possibly ignorant too and don't want to come down to hard.

Not everyone reads WITH comprehension!

@aabbccdd - NOW, that picture needs no smile! No wonder she's not as good at smiling when you have a bedroom mug like that!!!!!!!!!!

AND...why are so many people hung up on their member level????? Shi# my ego is big enough for you to call me just about anything that's not hostile. Noob, Newbie, Goofball, whatever, I know what I know. I don't need a forum standing to prove it...AND I have only been here a few months and thought that Jr. Member was more appropriate anyhow, at least for me...

LOOKS LIKE A GOOD BITCH

Bull Sharks Sink Boat Off Fla. Coast

FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. -- A crew aboard a shrimping boat were rescued after a group of bull sharks rammed and bit the vessel until it eventually sank off the Florida coast, according to an Associated Press report.

Captain Roger Schmall said a group of sharks had been slamming into the Christy Nichole's hull for four days. But then a 14-foot bull shark broke the boat's tail shaft, leaving Schmall and his crew of two adrift about 100 miles off the coast.

Schmall radioed for help, and another vessel picked the crew up about two hours later.

Schmall remained aboard his ship to pump water out while the other boat pulled it back to land. He said it was working for a couple of hours, but the waves eventually took their toll on Schmall's boat and the boat sank.

Apple would "switch to selling only DRM-free music" if labels agree

2/6/2007 3:08:28 PM, by Nate Anderson

As stories about "iTunes lock-in" pick up steam in Europe, Steve Jobs has decided that the time has come to make Apple's DRM stance clear. In an open letter posted today, Jobs insists that Apple would welcome a DRM-free world and that iTunes would offer unencrypted downloads the moment that labels make them available.

Jobs argues that it's only the labels who are holding Apple back. He also argues that their fixation on DRM is strange given the fact that nearly all the music they sell is in unencrypted, uncompressed form (CDs). This means that DRM does nothing to keep files off of P2P networks, and in fact represents a major investment of time and money by the companies that employ it. "If anything, the technical expertise and overhead required to create, operate and update a DRM system has limited the number of participants selling DRM protected music," he writes. "If such requirements were removed, the music industry might experience an influx of new companies willing to invest in innovative new stores and players."

He's right, of course: DRM isn't primarily about piracy, a fact we've been pointing out for years.

Jobs is now facing pressure in Europe over FairPlay, but the media has also been stuffed to the gills with stories about how DRM is poised to fade away this year. The European situation is his most immediate concern; it's been festering for years, and consumer groups there are now making another concerted push to open (at least a little) the iTunes ecosystem.

At the very end of his letter, Jobs takes pains to point out that the issue in Europe is caused by labels, not Apple, and that several of those labels are European companies. "Perhaps those unhappy with the current situation should redirect their energies towards persuading the music companies to sell their music DRM-free," he says. "For Europeans, two and a half of the big four music companies are located right in their backyard. The largest, Universal, is 100% owned by Vivendi, a French company. EMI is a British company, and Sony BMG is 50% owned by Bertelsmann, a German company."

The "death of DRM" has been a hot topic lately, and it's been fueled by the pronouncements of people like Yahoo Music's David Goldberg, who told a recent conference, "I don't think tomorrow you'll see every song being sold as an MP3, but you'll be seeing a lot more of it, that's for sure. There will be a significant portion of our content that will be available in MP3s by Christmas time. I can't say what portion or which labels, but that's what we believe."

After this kind of talk from Yahoo and others in the industry, Apple certainly doesn't want to look like the bad guy. Apple is currently the largest supplier of DRM music on the planet, so Jobs' opinion matters, and he seems defensive about the claim that Apple is "pro-DRM." We've argued before that Apple has benefited greatly from the current situation and that removing DRM is not necessarily in their interest. Whatever Jobs says now about his distaste for DRM, FairPlay has helped Apple immeasurably by stifling competition in the store space (no other major store but eMusic can work with the iPod) and creating a seamless ecosystem that Apple has used as a selling point for the iPod.

Tying the store to the ultra-popular iPod allowed Jobs to take a leadership role in the burgeoning market for digital music, and gave him incredible clout with the music labels, which he then parlayed into success with TV studios. He's now hard at work on bringing the movie industry to heel, though they have proved more resistant to Apple's uniform pricing scheme. Jobs may in fact loathe DRM with every fiber of his black turtlenecks, but Apple has certainly benefited from FairPlay.

It has also proved resistant so far to offering isolated unencrypted tracks. Canadian label Nettwerk claims that Apple won't allow tracks to be sold without DRM, even when Nettwerk artists like the Barenaked Ladies approve.

This could simply be chalked up to Apple's desire to offer a consistent experience, but that same desire means that iTunes won't switch to unencrypted music in a piecemeal fashion: it will be all or nothing. Although most of the major labels have been experimenting with different forms of DRM or the occasional sale of MP3 files, it's not clear that any of them are yet willing to take the locks off of their complete catalogs. What the industry wants is interoperable DRM that can provide a good customer experience, not the elimination of all DRM controls.

But interoperable DRM is nowhere to be seen. Will the labels decide instead to drop it all together? If so, we have Apple's word that they will support open formats, and that would be good news for everyone.
