ok, so i followed the sonix tutorial and the game has worked flawlessly. I have not had any freeze ups and am at the level where I'm about to meet Zeus. The tutorial went flawlessly and took, total, about 2-3 hours; the only problem I encountered was at the step where I had to make the gow.IML file; it kept telling me that it could not create it, so I downloaded the missing file from nero's website and installed it into my system 32 directory, and if im not mistaken, I received 3, not 2, error messages after that, but I figured everything was fine and sure enough, it was. After burning the disc I encountered the same problem that everyone has encountered (it froze at the GOW startup screen), but i figured it was my swap disc 2.0 that was outdated, and sure enough, it was. I tried it with swap magic 3.2 and it booted flawlessly. The solution is:
1. load the cd version of swap disc first
2. press the eject button and load the dvd version
3. press square for "special boot"

and there you have it, a game that works. If i encounter any freeze ups I will surely post. It was my first time trying any of this and managed to do it on my first try, but all thanks and grattitude go to sonix and the rest of you guys for posting all your findings. I wish this disc could have worked on a dual layer disc, unknowingly I spent $30 on 5, count them, five discs! only to discover that it does not- talk about an expensive experience. so heads up to all of you, do not waste your money on dual layer discs, UNLESS, you want to keep the files of the game in tact and burn them from your dual layer disc later- so i guess you could consider it to be not a total loss. keep on burning guys.

correction: on my step 2 you do NOT have to load the DVD loader, after you eject the CD loader it will automatically refresh itself and then stop spinning, after which you insert your backup and press, square for the "special boot" option. hope this helps

the steps i posted are for swap 2.0 NOT for 3.2.just follow the steps listed and it should work for 2.0, if it doesn't then you know you did something wrong in the burning process.

ok...but i do what you say...the disc never stops spinning...This is how i did it exactly...

1.) Put the CDLoader in...
2.) Once It asks for Disc...eject it and put in the DVD Loader, but if i let it sit...it never spins again...that where i'm stuck...if I push "X" the red screen comes up...if I push special boot...the screen goes black and never gives me the option to put in the backup...and if i let it sit...nothing happens...

I'm pretty sure I burned it right...as I put the DVD Loader in and boot it like normal...I get the "Sony Comptuer Entertainment Of America" screen...with the God Of War Copyright and stuff...so I'm thinking I burned it right...everything went smoothly in burning process. ANy more suggestions?

This is the procedure you should be using for Swap Magic 2 users:

Swap Magic Dvd/Cd depends on the loader you are going to use.(if it is the Dvdloader use the Swap Magic Dvd,if it is the Cdloader use the the Swap Magic Cd).Boot the loader up should be the first step.

Once again depends on the loader you are using(if it is the Dvdloader press the X button after it boots up,it will bring you to a submenu where you can pick certain loaders.Look for the 5v3 No Pin option and press the X button. If you are using the Cdloader_all version pick the 5v3 No Pin option by pressing the X button right after cdloader boots.)

Next eject the disc tray and put in the Swap Magic Dvd.Then press the X Button again.

You should get the EA Message screen which is normal with any loader.Using slidecard/fliptop method slide/open the lid to place your GOW fixed backup in the PS2.Once done press the X button a final time and it should load up,easy as that.

You can also use the CdloaderV7_Beta5.2 version, when it boots up the first time select Region:Default and IOP:Always Refresh then click the X button. Then put in the Swap Magic Dvd press the X button, you will see the EA message screen come up.Using slidecard/fliptop slide or open the lid put your GOW fixed backup in.Press the X button and it should boot up with no problems.

I have tested DvdloaderV7_All,CdloaderV7_All,and CdloaderV7_beta5.2 they all work. This is for Swap Magic 2.0 users though, not sure about the others. The newer Swap Magic Dvd version probably don't need any type of loaders though, since they probably already have the loaders integrated into them.

Is it possible to copy this game 1-1 using a DL burner and a DL disc? TIA

Only with a modchip, but for Swap Magic users no there is no way a DL disc would boot because of the TOC of the Swap Magic Dvd disc. The Swap Magic Dvd is only 4.35Gig in size,so if you backed up the game onto a DL disc. You would only end up with a screen of death, same thing applies with doing a TOC refresh. If you take the Swap Magic Cd V3.0 and did a TOC refresh with a DL original disc,it will not work because the Swap Magic Cd only reads the first layer of the disc. The only way to actually play the game with a 1:1 copy is by modchip.I think it could be possible if the Swap Magic Dvd was DVD-9 though or if the Swap Magic Cd was able to read both layers instead of just the first layer.

I'm not 100 percent sure on how to get it to work with certain modchips(I only know some modchips will play this game though),but you could probably extract from the .PAK files, then keep everything in the Extracted folder.Rebuild the new .PAK file with all the files then rebuild again using all the files of the game with Sony Cd/Dvd Rom generator. After that just burn it to a DL disc and only hope it works.Might be worth a shot, couldn't hurt to try it out.If your modchip can play a DL backup though, you shouldn't have problems getting this game to work.

Is all that rebuilding really needed if you are doing a 1-1 copy? I thought DL burners would copy everything? TIA

ok...I did it with DVDLoader v7.

1.) Put in DVD Swap Disc
2.) Put In DVD Loader
3.) Back To Swap Disc
4.) Put In Backup
5.) Pushed 'X'

Then it loaded "Sony Computer Entertainment Of America Presents..."

Then it doesn't go beyond that screen. Did I do something wrong in the burning process?

5.) Pushed 'X'
In between steps 3 and 4.
You have to press 'eject' on your console.
and enter your swap magic dvd again.
Wait 5-8 seconds press 'x'.

When it says "insert dvd by ea method"
Swap for your backup.

You also forgot to go into the submenu right when it starts up,and press the X button on 5v3 No Pin option.Look follow this guide alright http://www.hostultra.com/~liamv/cdloader.htm .You see the very first screen of cd/dvd loader where it says change disc and press X to play.Press the X button there with the cd/dvd loader still inside the PS2.It will bring you to a submenu where you can change loaders.Select the 5v3 No Pin option, and then press the X button and it should work.

Oh hey ECW yeah the .PAK files would have to be rebuilt, reason why is the two .PAK files are actually one file split to both layers. If you rebuild both .PAK files into one .PAK file it is the whole game, and you would be burning the game in a OTP state.I hope this helps you out alright, you have to rebuild it as a DVD-9 with Sony Cd/Dvd Rom Generator forgot to tell you that alright my bad.Just keep all the files of the game on the first layer, because all the burning programs are going to make the .PAK file shift to the second layer. All the burning programs will do this, because the first layer is not big enough to hold the .PAK file.

Oh I found a picture to help everyone out if they are having problems finding the menu in the cd/dvd loaders. It should look like this alright

If you don't get this menu to change to 5v3 No Option, then your game will not work.

When it says EA Method, you are not suppose to eject the PS2 tray. You need to trick the PS2 right here, using fliptop/slidecard then put your GOW backup in.

bbalzer read it again alright,I don't think you understand the steps alright.Just use the cdloaderV7_all loader or Dvdloader_all version, the multiple loader is already on these loaders. You just have to press the X button when they first boot up.
