i have read this post and followed a few items. i have downloaded WinAvi and used it to convert my file from .avi into dvd to get the Video_TS and Audio_TS files, i have then gone on to using CopyToDVD to burn it to disk, the new dvd plays on my DVD player, but it is very pixelated/large square blocks, and there is a very thick green color to it
Any help is greatly appreciated

Doeas the AVI play fine from the hard drive?
Then after you converted the file with WinAVI how do those files play from the hard drive?
trying to narrow down where the picture becomes bad.. :-)

What brand/type of media are you using?
If both the file look good on your computer that narrows it down to either your burning process or media, but if you are sucessfully writing to the media, but have play back issues then I would tend to lean towards the problem beeing the blank media you are using..

Get some better quality DVD media and try again you will be amazed :-)
If you go to the store look for
FujiFilm
Maxell
Sony
TDK - look for made in Japan or Singapore
Verbatim - look for made in Japan or Singapore
If buying online get some Taiyo Yuden's
Just buy a couple at a time to be sure that brand works good for you, but all of those should be fine

Ever heard of "Coaster" I wouldnt use them for anything you wanted to keep of course thats just my opinion, but there are plenty here that would agree. Just do a search on here for "CMC" or "Memorex" and you will see all the bad poop on that media..

It is also possible that the files you downloaded are PAL and not NTSC or vise virsa.. Depending on where you live? If you have AnyDVD installed you can check which format the video is in..

I don't mean to go against what the senior members have been telling you, but I have found that I used WinAvi on an older computer with tdk +r's and found that same problem. (the picture was very pixelated and the video and audio jumped) Anyways I was very frustrated consulted afterdawn forums and found that after I used Vso divxtodvd to convert then burnt the file on a newer computer at a slower speed I found much better results. Also I didnt change the media I was using and the quality still improved. Hope this helps.
P.S you can get divxtodvd from www.vso-software.fr

Well hazzarduk said the video plays fine on the computer after using Fab so I don't really see how using DivXtoDVD would help? The problem is obviously happening when burning the DVD files which were already converted to DVD.. Now burning at a slower speed could help as you pointed out. (little hint with that if you have to burn @ slower speed the media probably isn't so good) Also hazzarduk has stated that the DVD even plays fine on the computer just not the DVD player.. That pretty much usually always points to media.. Not saying the media is bad, but just that the player may not like that particular media. Believe me I am an advocate of DivXtoDVD (just take a look at my site) but in this instance the video plays fine except for in the DVD player so it wouldn't matter about which proggy was used to convert the video..

Thats what I thought
You see you have a NTSC video!!
Quote: Video Standard: NTSC
and your trying to play it on a PAL DVD player...
You need to convert it from NTSC to PAL if you check out the guides here on AD there are several that show you how to do this..
Here is a thread you might want to look at http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/115232
Good luck and keep me updated :-)

Try using DivXtoDVD. It has two little boxes where you can choose between Automatic, NTSC, and PAL...
This has to be used with the AVI file..
If you look at my guide for "Convert AVI to DVD" at my website (link in sig) At step 4 you can force it to Aspect: PAL and Standard: Force PAL.
That would be the easiest way that I can think of..
Hope that helps :-)
